⚡️ Cake Wallet integrates Lightning Network in self-custodial mode
@cakewallet has announced the integration of the Lightning Network into its mobile wallet, powered by @Breez_Tech SDK and Spark. The update allows users to make instant Bitcoin payments without managing a Lightning node, while maintaining self-custody and privacy by default.
The company developed a custom implementation of the Spark suite specifically to strengthen user privacy. According to Cake Wallet, Lightning transactions do not embed the Spark address in invoices, and transaction data is not published to public explorers by default, limiting unnecessary exposure of user activity.
Seth for Privacy, COO of Cake Wallet, stated: "Lightning shouldn't require users to sacrifice privacy or custody just to get speed." Vikrant Sharma, CEO of Cake Labs, added: "With Breez and Spark, Lightning finally reaches a point where it can be fast and intuitive without turning bitcoin into an IOU or giving up control."
The update also introduces user interface improvements and Birdpay, a new feature that allows users to send cryptocurrency to accounts via username.

⚡️ Lightning Network surpasses $1 billion in monthly volumes
Bitcoin's second-layer network processed $1.17 billion through 5.22 million transactions in November 2025, marking the first time the Lightning Network has exceeded $1 billion in monthly transaction volumes.
According to River Financial, this milestone was achieved despite Bitcoin's stagnant price performance. The data aggregates anonymized information from major Lightning node operators including ACINQ, Kraken, Breez, Lightspark, and LQWD, covering over 50% of the network's capacity.
The average Lightning transaction in November was $223, up from $118 the previous year, reflecting the network's current dominant use case of moving larger sums between exchanges rather than small daily purchases. While transaction numbers slightly decreased compared to 2023 due to reduced micropayment experiments in gaming and messaging, researchers anticipate future growth driven by autonomous payments powered by artificial intelligence.
Last week, Lightning Labs released an open-source toolkit enabling AI agents to manage Lightning nodes and make autonomous payments, potentially changing the network's transaction dynamics toward more frequent, lower-amount payments.
